(Update) Boxford Man Charged With Drunk Driving Fatal Crash In Newbury: DA

An Essex County man with an outstanding warrant was arrested for driving drunk in a crash that led to a man's death, officials say.

James Turcotte, 63, of Danvers, died after his motorcycle and another motorcycle collided on Route 1 in Newbury on Thursday, July 13, according to the Newbury Police Department. 

The crash was reported around 7:45 p.m., after which police responded and found Turcotte suffering from serious injuries, but alive. 

Turcotte was taken to Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport where he eventually died. 

The other involved motorcyclist, Scott Dambrosio, 55, of Boxford, is facing multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death. 

Dambrosio pleaded not guilty to operating under the influence of liquor in his arraignment on Friday. He had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Newbury Police Department.

He was held on a $5,000 bail as well as on the warrant. 

Dambrosio was charged with the following: 

  • Operating under the influence
  • Negligent operation 
  • Leaving the scene of a personal injury collision resulting in death

He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Newburyport District Court for the negligent operation and leaving the scene charges.

Police shared a plea for help, asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who has surveillance video of Route 1 between Newburyport and the crash site, or on Middle Road in Newbury, to call (978) 462-4440, extension 127.

Newbury police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are investigating the crash.
